Disaster strikes Doyenz disaster recovery cloud
Plug pulled in the UK, says reseller
Disaster has struck UK customers of the Doyenz rCloud disaster recovery service: it's apparently closing down.
The rCloud service was launched in Blighty in November 2011, and is hosted in Interxion's London data centre. It claimed to be a disaster recovery service that could drastically reduce the time needed to restore failed physical and virtual systems. It kept virtualised instances of small and medium-sized biz customers' servers in its cloudy storage and offered restoration in less than fifteen minutes.
Not any more, according to Doyentz UK channel partner Blue Solutions, which put out this statement on its website:
Blue Solutions have now received emailed confirmation that Doyenz will no longer be providing or supporting the rCloud backup and recovery service in the UK by the end of this week, 10 August 2012. We understand that Doyenz has emailed UK resellers and MSPs directly to notify them of the change. Doyenz’s removal of the rCloud service is surprising and disappointing.
We understand that Doyenz will retain client data on its systems until only 31 August 2012. We believe [but this is unconfirmed to us] that Doyenz will offer our UK resellers using the rCloud service the option to back up data to its US cloud servers.
Doyenz's UK PR agency was let go in the spring. The UK Doyenz office is on voicemail and a Geekwire report from the US, quoting an email from Doyenz founder Ashutosh Tiwary, said Doyenz was shedding staff. The Reg has left messages with the company. If Doyenz gets back to us well update this story.
Doyenz was founded in November 2007, and has recorded some $10m total funding. Now Doyenz doesn't appear to be the doyenne of cloud DR service suppliers that it longed to be. ®
