Scotland Yard officers investigating the hacking of computers have arrested a 55-year-old man in Cardiff.

The Met said the unnamed suspect is in custody at a police station in the Welsh capital. He was detained this morning over alleged offences of the Computer Misuse Act and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act.

The man was cuffed as part of Operation Tuleta - an investigation into criminal breaches of privacy being carried out in tandem with the ongoing phone-hacking probe (Op Weeting) that has swamped the Rupert Murdoch-owned newspaper publisher News International.

"This arrest is not directly linked to any news organisation or the activities of journalists," Scotland Yard stressed.

To date, six people have been arrested as part of Operation Tuleta, 24 suspects have been cuffed in relation to the Met's high-profile phone-hacking investigation and 41 individuals have had their collar felt relating to alleged police bungs under Operation Elveden. ®
