No love lost for 'snitching' Samsung

Samsung's highly anticipated Android-based Galaxy S III smartphone may be basking in attention that it's receiving during its official launch on Wednesday, but there's at least one top tech exec who's snubbing it.

Terry Gou, the "pugnacious" chairman of Hon Hai, the parent company of iPhone and iPad maker Foxconn, advises that consumers should skip Samsung's new flagship handset and wait instead for the iPhone 5, reports Focus Taiwan, citing the China Times.

Gou has no love for Samsung, calling it "a company with a track record of snitching on its competitors" – a reference to Samsung's outing of four Taiwanese companies in a 2010 EU flat-panel price-fixing investigation that resulted in a €434m fine.

The Hon Hai chairman – who has said that his lifelong goal is to defeat Samsung – confirmed that his company had cut a joint-venture deal with Sharp on Monday that he believes will allow Hon Hai to surpass Samsung in three to five years.

The deal will include a new flat-panel television assembly line to be built near Hon Hai's New Taipei headquarters, Gou said, which the China Times claims that "market sources" suggest will manufacture Apple's oft-rumored big-screen TV.

Gou, who is Taiwanese, further dissed Samsung, which is Korean, by complimenting Sharp, which is Japanese. "I respect the Japanese and especially like their execution and communication styles," he said, "Unlike the Koreans, they will not hit you from behind."

Not that putting the boot to the Samsung's Galaxy S III during its coming-out party is a low blow, eh, Chairman Gou? ®
