Australia rocks to Spotify

Swedish digital music streamer Spotify is ready for downloading in the Australian market.
Marshalling steam since November, the advertising supported Spotify has launched with a raft of revenue kickers including the Commonwealth Bank, CUB, Fairfax Media’s websites Daily Life and TheVine, McDonald’s, ninemsn and Virgin Mobile.
The on-demand service offers users access to over 16 million tracks via PC, mobile phone, iPad and other devices. The service offers three levels of entry, from free to two subscription tiers.
Australia is the 14th market in which Spotify has launched.
Spotify's arrival will not be welcomed by local radio stations, who fear its progressive advertising offerings. The Swedish digi powerhouse allows advertisers to use open APIs to create campaigns leveraging the Spotify catalogue, offers a Spotify lightbox which enables the use of rich media content like video or social media within the Spotify platform and other neat formats that merge content with brands in a viral fashion. The platform’s integration with Facebook – as a sign-in mechanism-also adds another layer of in–your-friends-faces viral power.
Spotify Managing Director Australia and New Zealand Kate Vale said "pairing audio with visual advertising is not only one of the most powerful forms of marketing online, it’s also a unique new addition to the Australian advertising market.”
The offering for consumers includes: Spotify Free – all access to the catalogue but sprayed with occasional advertising; Spotify Unlimited – $6.99 all access with uninterrupted, ad-free streaming to your computer; Spotify Premium – $11.99 per month on any platform online or offline, on your computer, your mobile phone, tablet and a other devices. Additionally,
Spotify’s seamless Facebook integration takes enjoying music with friends to a whole new level. Music has never been this social.
In March Telstra flagged that it will soon launch the MOG streaming music service which will be network-independent although a firm launch date has yet to be revealed. It is understood that the wil enter the market slight cheaper at $5 and $10 per month all you can dance to plans.
Spotify has bumped up staff across APAC which big hiring drives include Singapore, Hong Kong and Sydney since November.
Since launching in Sweden in 2008 the service now has around 10 million active users and more than three million paying subscribers globally.®
