Apple Store moped raider suspect to face trial in October

Bloke denies involvement in iPad grab caper

A man accused of perpetrating a smash-and-grab raid at the Apple Store in London's Covent Garden will stand trial in October, Met Police have confirmed.

A gang of seven moped and motorcycle marauders, most carrying pillion riders, plundered shiny new kit including iPads and other gear from the London-based retail outlet last autumn.

Two people were arrested close to the trendy tech titan's shop and charged in early November after detectives closed in on what they alleged to be a network of youngsters responsible for 48 burglaries of retail premises in the capital over a 12-day period.

A Met spokesman told The Register today a 16-year-old boy from EC1 pleaded guilty to burglary and will appear before Highbury Corner magistrates on 9 November for sentencing. The teenager was bailed and ordered to get a ticking off from a Youth Offender Panel.

Meanwhile Paul Fearn, 21, of Goswell Road, EC1, has pleaded not guilty to burglary. He is due to stand trial at Southwark Crown Court on 15 October, the spokesman revealed.

Seven other individuals aged between 18 and 23, charged with an involvement in the burglary spate, will also appear at Southwark Crown Court on the same day.

Steven Dedman, 19, of Wharton Street, WC1, pleaded guilty to burglary but not guilty to possessing criminal property, while Bradley White, 20, of Prichard Court, George's Road, N7, pleaded not guilty to both counts. The pair have been remanded in custody.

Five others also pleaded not guilty to burglary and were released on bail: they are Lizzie Andrews, 19, of Grayson House, Radnor Street, EC1; Reece Jackson, 19, of no fixed abode; Dean Cole, 23, of Cornwallis Sq, N19; Grant McCarroll, 18, of Offord Road, N1; and Daniel White, 18, of George's Road, N7. ®
