Battlefield Earth ruled worst film EVER
Sci-fi cobblers cops Reg reader shoeing
It's official: Battlefield Earth is the worst film ever according to our beloved moviegoing readers.
The final result of our poll of cinematic shame ended with Roger Christian's masterpiece on 1,454 votes, roundly beating The Phantom Menace into second spot with 1,022 votes.
By chilling coincidence, Christian was second unit director on The Phantom Menace, before achieving Tinsel Town immortality with one of seven Razzies for the ill-advised adaptation of L Ron Hubbard's Scientology classic.
The original Battlefield Earth screenwriter was JD Shapiro, who subsequently apologised for having anything to do with "the suckiest movie ever".
Third spot on the podium of celluloid disgrace was awarded to Twilight, which attracted a respectable 998 votes.
Here's how the rest of the films fared:
- Highlander II (937 votes)
- Avatar (636)
- The Blair Witch Project (568)
- Titanic (544)
- The Matrix Reloaded (532)
- Megashark vs Giant Octopus (442)
- Snakes on a Plane (441)
- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (406)
- War of the Worlds (399)
- The Happening (395)
- The Core (383)
- The Postman (204)
- The Room (198)
- Manos: The Hands of Fate (173)
- Troll 2 (123)
- Sunshine (86)
- Birdemic: Shock and Terror (80)
The top 10 "winners" of the poll are on offer as a prize for whoever comes up with the triumphant "Worst film NEVER made" pitch. The deadline for entries for the competition is later this afternoon, and you can find full details here. ®
