Hitachi Data Systems is replacing its mid-range AMS storage arrays with a new HDS Unified Storage (HUS) array.

We know this not because of any type of release or announcement from HDS or Hitachi, but rather because Avnet Belgium has spilled the beans.

Have a look at this Avnet Belgium website.

The webpage text says:

Hitachi Unified Storage Launch

Great news! Hitachi Data Systems has a big announcement for you.

Avnet Technology Solutions and Hitachi Data Systems would like to invite you for the Hitachi Data Systems Unified Storage Launch on April the 24th 2012 at the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren, Belgium.

We got Googling to try to find out more.

The evidence

There is no equivalent information on HDS' own webpages by the way.

From the Hyosung webpage we understand:

Other text on this web page tells us the offering will include:

That's all we know, for now. There's no mention of file access and no mention of cloud. The AMS product set is getting a little long in the tooth and its replacement is not surprising. There will be an obvious comparison to EMC's VNX arrays and also, El Reg would imagine, to NetApp's FAS3000 and FAS2000 products.

We understand HDS has some VSP features coming to help its use as a mainframe storage array and El Reg storage desk will update you as soon as we know more. ®
