Some users of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia's NetBank service are unable to use the service, thanks to a bug that impacts PCs running the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

A Register reader let us know of the problem, which he says has been apparent "for several weeks now."

An email to the reader from an "Online Specialist" at the bank says the NetBank help desk is aware of the issue and is looking into it "as a high priority by our NetBank Development Team however they have not been able to give me an estimated time for the fix."

The email also says "I really hope this does get corrected very shortly as there are many other customers like yourself who are experiencing the same issue."

One suggestion offered to affected customers is to use another browser, namely Chrome.

The precise nature of the problem is not known, but The Register understands an input routine and the way it is handled by NetBank is the core of the issue.

The Commonwealth Bank's PR team says IE on 64-bit Windows 7 is supported, but offered no other comment. ®
