Vodafone's deputy chairman Sir John Buchanan is reportedly exiting the company after taking up a chairmanship post at Cambridge-based semiconductor firm ARM.

According to Saturday's Daily Telegraph, Buchanan's close pals have denied claims that he is leaving the mobile giant because of concerns about Vodafone becoming the potential suitor of struggling Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWW).

One source close to the deputy chairman, who has been at Vodafone for nearly a decade, said such a rumour was "rubbish".

Any acquisition of CWW's loss-making business could lead to Vodafone deferring its tax payments, the report said. ®
