Sony will launch PlayMemories Studio for PlayStation 3 this week, an app that allows users to edit photos and video clips on their console.

Tablets? Who needs 'em?

PS3 owners who download the app can view, edit and share content, as well as manage it directly on external devices using the PS3 gamepad.

The program features 11 picture effects, including sepia, toy camera and monochrome, as well as all the standard crop and trim tools found in the likes of Photoshop.

Users can upload results directly to Facecrack too, as well as PlayMemories Online, Sony's upcoming cloud-based service accessible from a wide range of connected devices, it said.

Those with a PS Vita can also transfer content wirelessly using Remote Play tech.

A free 30-day version of PlayMemories Studio is available now, with the full software costing £12 when the trial expires. PlayStation Plus subscribers have access to the app free of charge. ®
