Samsung fanboys will be disappointed to learn that banners spied at Phones 4U's flagship store in London's Oxford Street - one of which teases with a 30 March date - bears no relation to the release of the eagerly anticipated Galaxy S III smartphone.

Refurbishments to the Oxford Street store were under way this morning, with a large Samsung banner in the window that reads: "Coming 30.03.12".

Some online observers have speculated that the sign signals the launch of Samsung's upcoming next-gen Android blower, the S III, originally believed to be hitting shelves in late April.

Such a notion was immediately squashed by staff in the Phones4U store opposite. They told Reg Hardware the banner's date is related to the day the refurbished store will be back for business. Samsung is merely a sponsor for the grand re-opening.

Meanwhile, the wait for an official release date for the anticipated Samsung smartphone continues. Most whispers still point towards an April timeframe, although Samsung reps say nothing is finalised yet. ®
