Motor insurance biz RAC suffered a day-long outage after something went kaput in its data centre in Bristol.

The server farm is still titsup, an RAC spokesperson told The Reg, and the cause of the cock-up is unknown. The RAC website is working but services involving sales and member accounts have been affected by the downtime.

A Reg mole alerted us to the issue at lunchtime today but we understand the systems fell over during the night.

The RAC spokesperson denied suggestions that staff had been hurt by overheating servers, adding: "Regarding RAC services, this is affecting sales and membership. We do have systems in place to limit the impact on customers." ®
