The long anticipated Australian launch details for music streaming service Spotify are poised to be unveiled as soon as next week as high profile digital executives begin to reveal their involvement.

As revealed by El Reg in November, Spotify was entering the market imminently as confirmed by DMG CEO Cathy O'Connor .

The company is hiring staff for offices across APAC which include Singapore, Hong Kong and Sydney since November with local Australian office quietly operating over summer. Australian digital stalwart Kate Vale- the first Google Australia employee- was appointed to the Spotify fold in November to head the Australian team.

In January, European digerati Radinck van Vollenhoven was appointed consultant for Spotify Australia and New Zealand.

He re-joins Spotify after being a driving force for its launch in the Netherlands and was most recently GM and CEO for DMD, a joint venture in ANZ between Universal Music & Sony Music to enhance digital music distribution in the marketplace through various B2B and B2C channels.

Prior to Spotify he worked for Dutch mobile ad sales outfit Blyk.

In December Spotify also secured a relationship with Brisbane based music discovery site We Are Hunted.

A recent report from Morgan Stanley forecast that the entry of music industry disrupters such as Pandora and Spotify would erode commercial radio revenue and audiences . "We believe it’s only a matter of time before the internet has a negative impact on traditional radio listenership … and thereafter radio asset values in Australia too,” Morgan Stanley said. ®
