Reader research Many companies have now undergone a wave of server consolidation, enabled by virtualisation.

But virtualisation doesn't have to stop at rationalising servers. It offers the potential to radically alter the speed and flexibility of IT delivery, making it demand driven and able to dynamically respond to changes in hours or minutes rather than weeks or months.

This depends on reconfiguring not only servers, but networking and storage too.

However, the top challenge for many data centre managers is that operations staff are overstretched and it's difficult just keeping on top of the day-to-day tasks, let alone implementing widespread changes.

With this in mind, we're looking to you to let us know what the real situation is and how prepared your data centre is for dynamic IT.

As always we'd be hugely grateful for your input. The study is short and easy to complete. You can get started here...

There's also an opportunity for you to share your experience in this area on our next live Regcast on February 28th at 16:30 GMT / 08:30 PST.

The Register's Tim Phillips will be joined by Andy Buss from Freeform Dynamics and Patrick Ancipink from CA.

They’re coming pre-loaded with best practice and will be able to help you build a practical check list for building a private cloud. You can register for this free event here. ®
