Amazon could be about to open a bricks-and-mortar store in Seattle aimed at selling the Kindle - according to rumours on blog goodereader.

Amazon execs are impressed by Apple's trendy hangouts shops, said the goodereader source, and want to get a piece of the boutique retail pie. The Seattle store would test out the concept and possibly pave the way to a national roll-out of "real-world" Amazon stores.

The shop, which could be launched in the next few months, will be more boutique than warehouse: "They are not looking to launch a huge store with thousands of square feet," said the blog.

Amazon sources close to the situation have told us that the company is planning on rolling out a retail store in Seattle within the next few months... They are going the boutique route and stocking the shelves with only high margin and high-end items. Their intention is to mainly hustle their entire line of Kindle e-Readers and the Kindle Fire. They also will be stocking a ton of accessories such as cases, screen protectors, and USB adapters.

The Kindle shop would also feature a bank of helpful Amazonians who would work in a similar way to the Genius bar, showing punters how to use their tablets.

Amazon has refused to comment. ®
