Apple may be looking to incorporate the latest version of a new technology, the company's many fansites are reporting.

The technology was recently upgraded to deliver greater performance, and while the new version has yet to be formally approved by the relevant standards bodies, the specification is available for use by makers of kit that incorporates the technology.

Apple, for one, offers a wide range of laptop, desktop, smartphone, tablet and peripheral products that could contain the new technology.

Based on what the company has done with previous new technologies, it's a good bet Apple will incorporate this latest new technology in its offerings.

Indeed, one source told us: "As a technology company, we like new technology here, and we like to build new technologies such as the new technology you're referring to into our products.

"I think it's highly likely we will support this new technology. Unless we don't, of course."

In other news, Apple may support 802.11ac, the next generation of Wi-Fi, guesses AppleInsider. ®
