'Lovefilm without the DVDs' for £6 a month

Netflix goes live in the UK today, offering Brits streaming access to its collection of online content for £6 a month.
The US company said it will also offer one-month trials for free.
At launch, Netflix is offering films and TV programmes from All3Media, the BBC, CBS, Channel 4’s 4oD, Disney, ITV, Lionsgate, MGM, Miramax, Momentum Pictures, NBC Universal, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment, 20th Century Fox and Viacom International Media Networks.
Many of the films and programmes, it said, are available in HD and 5.1 sound.
The company said it has playback clients for Android and iOS phones; the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 games consoles; Mac and Windows computers; tellies from LG and Samsung; and set-top boxes from Apple, WD, Philips and Roku.
So does is main rival over here, the Amazon-owned Lovefilm. Lovefilm has the advantage that its stream subscription also sends you discs through the post, handy at a time when far less content is available to stream - from either service - than it is on pre-recorded media.
But mailing discs and managing inventory is costly, so Netflix wants out of that business, which is why new services, like Netflix UK, lack it. ®
