Comm Bank in four hour network wipeout

Late night shoppers forced to tweet anger

Commonwealth Bank customers suffered a four hour outage during pre-Christmas shopping on Wednesday evening, reporting incorrect balances and sparking customer meltdowns on Facebook.

The entire network was down from an as-yet-to-be identified fault affected the bank's national ATM network online banking and EFTPOS systems.

The bank, which aknowledged the fault on Twitter and its own website posted a statement alerting customers that “ATM, EFTPOS and online banking systems were back up and running by 10pm.”

The bank also told media that customers who believed money was missing from their accounts should contact the bank, but has yet to supply any kind of explanation for the technical glitch.

Customers rampantly chronicled their experiences via social media reporting incorrect balances, disappearing funds, failure to retrieve money from ATM’s and an inability to get through to customer service staff.

A similar outage occurred around exactly the same time last year. ®
