Barista barb could hit home in new ad campaign

Not content with the trans-continental patent lawsuits, Samsung have struck another blow at Apple. This time somewhere it might hurt - its branding.

A new TV ad for the Samsung Galaxy SII showing from today in the States sticks it directly to the iPhone, by suggesting that the Jesus mobe is an over-hyped pricey status toy for lackadaisical hipsters. Getting specific, it lists off the 4G connection of the Samsung mobe - not yet available on iPhone, the Galaxy's larger screen and the reportedly dodgy battery life of the iPhone 4S. Oh and the fact that it looks exactly the same as the iPhone 4.

"I can't use a Samsung, I'm a creative." / "Dude, you're a barista"

We notice that the S2 owners are subtly but noticeably better dressed and give the impression of being employed. When that guy gets into a taxi at the end, it suggests he can afford to pay for it.

Is the tide turning? Will Apple's hipster-chic bite it in the ass?

Still, the iPhone 4S sold 4 million in its first weekend so we imagine no one is shedding any tears over this in Cupertino. As you might expect - the YouTube comments on the video are a seething pit of flame wars. ®
