While the company was busy unveiling its latest Razr handset, Motorola also slipped out a new health and fitness gadget, the Moto Actv.

The touchscreen-equipped, iPod Nano-esque device is essentially a multimedia watch with extensive fitness analysis tools.

Motorola Actv

This sweat-proof, scratch-resistant jogging-buddy attaches to a wristband and tracks a user's activity, whether that's running, cycling or plain old sofa surfing. According to the company, it's like having a personal trainer by your side at all times.

Saints preserve us...

As well as tracking heart-rates and calculating calories, the Actv doubles up as a music player and will apparently learn the songs that inspires a good work out. There's also an FM radio and GPS functionality.

Fitness advice and results are sent to a Bluetooth headset, which can be used as well when the Actv connects to Moto smartphones, receiving calls and text messages, without having to take the phone out of a pocket.

The Motorola ActV comes in both 8GB and 16GB versions and will compete directly with similar systems such as the Nike+ sports watch. It touches down this December in the UK first, which is probably just as well considering we're such a nation of lardy lager louts.

Exact pricing has yet to be announced. ®
