BridgeSTOR has a dedupe card for Windows NAS boxes that will provide a 35 per cent storage saving – or your money cheerfully refunded.

The PCIe (x4) card has an Exar 8200 processor and accompanying software that adds deduplication, compression, thin provisioning, and encryption to Windows Server 2008 R2 Network-Attached Storage (NAS).

It operates in-line with the data path, and has little or no performance impact, with data reduction ratios of 1.5:1 to 2.5:1 or 35 to 60 per cent.

The Exar processor carries out the data deduplication, compression, and encryption: software adds a GUI, drivers, deduplication and compression processing logic, system interfaces, block manager, and various utilities required to implement dedupe, compression, and enhanced security in that Windows Server environment.

The compression works on both deduplicated and non-deduplicated data blocks.

John Matze, BridgeSTOR's founder and CEO, said: “The value of NAS deduplication is easy to understand. Just think about a dozen office workers storing a copy of an email attachment on their home directories."

Recommended servers to run the software include HP ProLiant DL180, DL185, Dell PowerEdge R510, R610, R710 and R810, and IBM x-Series M2 and M3 servers. These should use either internal disk drives or low latency, external SAS- or Fibre Channel-attached disk drives.

A 35 per cent/35-day guarantee says buyers will require a minimum of 35 per cent less storage when compared to a baseline of traditional storage within 35 days of the BridgeSTOR product being placed into production, or the buyer can get their full purchase price refunded.

Pricing is based on the capacity of the physical storage subject to dedupe and compression, and starts at $995 for up to 8TB of storage. The product is available from BridgeSTOR's website and its channel. ®
