Lend Lease and Transfield Services have secured coveted NBN Co fibre rollout contracts for Victoria and Western Australia worth collectively up to $AU879 million.

Lend Lease’s Syntheo JV with Service Stream has been awarded the WA portion of NBN Co’s rollout of passive fibre network over an initial two year period worth $AU174 million.

There is an option of a further two years with a potential total value of $AU484 million.

The contract involves the design and construction of the fibre access network across WA.

Lend Lease Group CEO and MD Steve McCann said “this project adds to our growing strength in Western Australia and positions the Group for future work in the telecommunications sector, both with NBN and other providers.”

Meanwhile in Victoria, Transfield Services has snared a two year, $AU133 million contract to design and construct NBN Co’s fibre optic network in Victoria over the next two years. The contract also has an optional two year extension taking the potential value up to $395 million. Work will commence in October 2011, subject to satisfaction of several conditions precedent.

In June 2011, Transfield Services completed the construction of the fibre optic network at one of the first release sites located in the southern New South Wales coastal communities of Minnamurra and Kiama Downs.

Transfield Services has also had recent luck with broadband infrastructure projects in New Zealand, securing NZ$462 million in contracts for its national Ultra Fast Broadband network. ®
