Australian satellite communications company NewSat has secured a ten year $US134 million capacity agreement with Pakistani service provider 3A Technology for carriage on the yet to be launched Jabiru-1 satellite.

The multi-million dollar deal is its second in a month, following on from the $US105 million contract with TrustComm. The significant capacity wins reflect the ASX-listed NewSat’s shift from being a reseller of satellite capacity to an owner of satellites.

The Jabiru-1 is NewSat's first geostationary communications satellite which will provide high-powered satellite capacity to high value customers in the military, defence and government markets as well as other enterprise segments such as resources.

The Jabiru-1 Ka-band satellite capacity purchased by 3A Technology will serve mobile carrier, enterprise and government clients in the multiple high demand regions within the Middle East, including Pakistan and Afghanistan.

"The region of Pakistan is amongst the most under serviced and fastest growing user of satellite technology in the world and is perfectly poised to take advantage of NewSat's services to bolster internal infrastructure and external communications," said NewSat founder and chairman Adrian Ballintine.

NewSat also has rights to seven premium orbital slots, which provides a significant growth opportunity once Jabiru-1 is launched in 2012. ®
