A Scottish teenager has been arrested for alleged incitement after posting pro-disorder statements on Facebook.

Glasgow has been mostly untouched by the disturbances despite the dangerous incitement of 16-year-old Alexander McQuarrie from Cessnock.

Strathclyde Police said the arrest sent a strong message "to anyone who is thinking of causing trouble here", The Times reports. He was accused of inciting others to "commit acts of disorder".

The police said the arrest also showed they were actively monitoring the situation and were ready to act if required.

Facebook pages calling for riots on Friday in Glasgow were damned by many commenters and reported to police.

Police said they had no evidence that trouble was planned but called on the public to report any suspicions they had.

London was mostly quiet last night, with several thousand extra police on the streets. ®
