Teasing twit raises twenty grand

Hats off to "DMReporter" who created a spoof Twitter feed for Liz Jones's trip to Somalia to cover the famine.

For those not conversant with Jones' unique brand of self-obsessed, humanity-hating columns suffice to say that even Daily Mail readers occasionally feel the columnist needs medical help. Her recent work detailing her own facelift was a particular delight and got 445 mostly rude comments from readers.

News that the fashion writer was off to the Horn of Africa was questioned by some commentators, but welcomed by DMReporter who quickly set up @LizJonesSomalia to chronicle Jones' journey.

Top tweets included suggestions to twin Mogadishu refugee camp with the Big Chill festival and: "I have tried to stop the Red Cross giving children vaccinations because of the MSRA scare but they don't listen!"

So far, so Twitter.

But DMReporter included a link to JustGiving for those twats amused by the tweets.

At the time of writing total donations stand at £23,809.41. Including gift aid that should make almost £29,000. Which for a total of 259 tweets enjoyed by 8,592 followers is a pretty damn good rate of return. The money, plus tax rebates, will go the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Get over to Liz Jones's fake feed here, and hit the Just Giving link if you're amused. ®
