Microsoft Oz PR head joins exodus to network builder

NBN Co has opened the door to Microsoft recruits, having previously raided the talent cupboards of Telstra and vendors like Alcatel-Lucent.
Microsoft Australia’s head of corporate affairs, a veteran of six years, Cathy Jamieson, announced that she is leaving the house of Gates for NBN Co to take up the newly created role of Group Manager, Public Communications and Social Media.
In a message to contacts she said, “I’ll be responsible for the nationwide public information campaign to help ensure Australians have a smooth migration from copper-based infrastructure to fibre optic broadband.”
Jamieson will also oversee NBN Co’s social media strategy.
At NBN Co she will join former Microsoft Australia's chief security advisor, Stuart Strathdee, who jumped ship in June to take the role of Security Analytics Manager. Last October Microsoft’s Manager Platform Strategy and former Chief Security Advisor Peter Watson's joined NBN Co as Security Officer.
NBN Co currently has a head count of over 700 employees and has 106 positions open for recruitment. In May the infrastructure giant said it would be taking on 1000 new employees across the operation over the next 12 months, after appointing a panel of 17 recruitment agencies.
At the peak of NBN deployment, the company has forecast that it will have between 16,000 to 18,000 full time or contract engineering staff on board. ®
