Sony Ericsson is developing a glasses-free 3D handset, rumoured to integrate the tablet and smartphone into a 4.7in hybrid.

The whispers come by way of Androidandme, that claims Sony Ericsson's secret smartphone will go toe-to-toe with the LG Optimus 3D and HTC Evo 3D. The forthcoming device will apparently handle a 1280x720p resolution on its 4.7in display too.

S1 and S2 tablets

Sony has already confirmed the S1 and S2 tablets

With 3D capabilities, the mystery machine is all set for the gaming market, a cross perhaps between the Xperia Play and the October-bound PlayStation Vita, with the added 3D element.

Sony already revealed the S1 and S2 fondleslabs, promising us a "summer of tablets", an event usually associated with those who rave off to Ibiza.

Details are thin on the ground at the moment, but we'll keep you posted if we hear more. In the meantime, let us know if a 3D smartphone with a 4.7in screen would appeal to you. ®
