AAPT has reportedly signed a deal with Oracle to launch an infrastructure-as-a-service offering based on the Solaris operating system.

The carrier, owned by New Zealand Telecom, has previously concentrated on voice-based services for its hosted offerings, most notably in the hosted IP-PABX, IP centrex and SIP trunking markets. More recently, it has thrown its weight behind cloud applications as well, offering a suite of services based on Google Apps.

According to The Australian, the carrier will target large enterprise customers with the Solaris-as-a-service product. It has been concentrating on building its business service footprint since divesting its residential customer base to iiNet in 2010.

CEO David Yuile said the cloud service will be rolled out to all six AAPT data centres in Australia. Yuile is booked to give the waiting world more detail about the Solaris-as-a-service offering at next week’s InSync11 conference at the Sydney Convention Centre.

The carrier has been preparing the service since 2010. ®
