Demand for IT jobs in London grew by 18 per cent in the last quarter compared with the same period in 2010.

Meanwhile, code monkey jobs dominated the recruitment market, according to employment outfit CWJobs.

It said London positions now make up 33 per cent of all UK-based IT jobs advertised on its site.

More than 37,000 job ads for positions in the capital were posted on CWJobs – the IT jobs site which ran the survey – in the past three months.

"It's promising to see that the government's investment in the IT sector is being reflected in the recruitment market," said the company's website director Richard Nott.

"The quality of IT candidates in the UK is extremely high and often underestimated, so by positioning London at the centre of the technology world, we hope students, graduates and IT specialists will be inspired to take advantage of the opportunities available to them."

Demand for developers means ads recruiting them make up 39 per cent of all job ads posted on the recruitment site in the UK.

Code skills most in demand by tech firms are the usual suspects: SQL, C, C# and Java.

But developers with Agile, VMware and Scrum skills are now more in demand, the survey noted.

It found IT jobs ads for the public sector, financial sector, retail, media and manufacturing were all flat to steady in the last quarter. ®
