Pacnet is continuing its Asia-Pacific data centre expansion with a new Hong Kong data landing station (DLS), which the company says provides a one-stop collocation and connectivity solution.

The new Hong Kong facility has direct connectivity into the carrier’s Asian submarine cable network.

Bill Barney, Pacnet’s CEO, says the new facility targets an Asia-Pac data centre and hosting market that Gartner predicts will more than double from $US2 billion in 2010 to $US4.5 billion by 2015.

“We are building this capability in Hong Kong to serve Asia’s growing appetite for cloud services … Hong Kong is well-positioned as a data centre hub to support this,” he said.

The EAC-C2C cable that lands at the DLS site connects to Singapore, China, Taiwan, The Philippines, South Korea, Japan and the US.

When complete, the new data centre will be able to host 800 high-power-density racks, with 3 megawatts power supply, and will be designed to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

The new facility is part of a strategy which also saw a new Pacnet data centre opened in Sydney earlier this year. ®
