Amazon is gearing up to launch an Indian version of its site.

The bookseller and cloud provider is already recruiting and is aiming for a team of 200 people.

The company is talking to Flipkart.com, LetsBuy.com and Exclusively.in, according to The Times of India.

The paper saw the first clue in the hiring of Madhu M, a senior exec at Landmarkonthenet – a major online bookseller which began life as a real-world bookshop in Chennai in 1987.

The company already has three development sites in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad for its retail, cloud and Kindle services.

Amazon UK was unable to comment on this story.

The book giant has taken a cautious view of international expansion and deliveries. It has sites in the UK, US, Germany, France, Japan, Canada and Japan.

Selling to hundreds of millions of Indians will be a big boost to the firm, should it succeed in the subcontinent. ®
