Audio speakers come in various shapes and sizes, but it's rare to find sets as funky as these.

The speakers, built to order by British designer Richard Grant, are made from Polyurethane glass fibre resin and come in a variety of ornamental packages, including a rocket-like droid and a Ghanaian ritual mask.

The latter feature gold-plated connection posts, stainless steel fixings and weather resistance. They'll set you back about £750 a pair and will take 4-6 weeks to build.

Future designs could be cheaper, though.

Grant told Reg Hardware he has sourced smaller, more powerful drivers which should bring down the price a bit. Apparently, the new 75mm drive units have a rated output of 20W and a peak of 80W, with a frequency range spreading from 55Hz to 15KHz.

Grant intends to offer a dozen designs over time, so punters can grab a handful and have unique speakers spread throughout the house as "stunning objects in the corner of the room".

Another design is the Italian sculpture speaker, which is still in the prototype stage but will be available soon. Many more are in the works too, including an Egyptian relic, several antiquity pieces and a few fossil-look models.
