Video Glasgow-based Wise Group has worked for a generation in Scotland to help get jobs for ex-offenders and the long-term unemployed.

With a creaking IT system, many small offices and little cash to spend, Wise CIO Alan Lee-Bourke decided that his best chance of putting a jacuzzi in his server room was to use Microsoft BPOS to provide basic apps from the cloud.

With the financial crisis hitting public sector budgets, Wise Group can face the future confident that it can scale its business up or down at minimum cost. It is even selling cloud services to other non-profit organisations to help them save cash.

Lee-Bourke invites The Register into a server room full of redundant equipment to show us where the spa bath will go, and to talk about how cloud apps mean Wise Group can direct more of its income to productive work.
