Footage of Sony's forthcoming handheld - the NGP - has surfaced online, showing the device in action ahead of its appearance at next week's E3 Expo.

In a series of clips uploaded to the Official PlayStation Blog, the quad-core device - rumoured to be unveiled as PS Vita next week - is shown running Uncharted, a musical game called Sound Shapes and Wipeout HD, with the latter used to demonstrate cross-platform functionality.

Apparently, users can gloat by sending pictures and video of themselves taunting opponents after a heavy loss.

Sony insists the device seen in these videos is an early dev unit rather than the finished product, yet has confirmed the final build will be of a similar size. The blog concludes "What you'll eventually be able to pick up in a store will look a heck of a lot better."

The Sony PSP2, aka NGP, aka the soon-to-be-known-as PS Vita, is set for release later this year. More details will be revealed next week. ®
