Research Our thanks as always to Reg readers, some 644 IT pros, who took time out to complete our recent survey into mobile computing in business.

Our research partner Freeform Dynamics, has parlayed the data into a lovely whitepaper called Mobile Computing Checkpoint: The present and future of flexible working, published for your delectation and edification.

In this 14-page study sponsored by Intel, analysts Dale Vile and Andrew Buss note that IT professionals think the importance of full functional laptops at work will increase in the next three years: in other words tablets are not replacing laptops anytime soon. Or smartphones: "while tablets may play a critical role in some scenarios, they are likely to represent a ‘nice to have’ third device for more general professional use, at least in the short to medium term."

The Vile and Buss paper also covers the consumerisation of mobile IT; security concerns; IT-related problems the need for better device management tools; and yes, the rise of cloud services. And more.
