Videogames publisher Ubisoft is to launch a film company to adapt its games into motion pictures.

The project, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, will help the French publisher's ambitions of knocking Activision and EA off the top perches of the gaming world, movie industry title Variety reports.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

The move follows Walt Disney's blockbuster hit Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, a Ubisoft game adaptation, which was directed by Jerry Bruckheimer and grossed roughly $335m worldwide. Now that Ubi is taking on the task in-house, other titles are rumoured to make the jump, including Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell.

Should we be prepared for a heap of iffy videogame spin-offs coming to cinemas near us soon? GIven the aforementioned PoP and other videogame adaptations, we won't be surprised if many of them are awful. Has anyone ever done an adaption right? Tomb Raider perhaps? What do you think? ®
