Ohio cops taze naked marathoneer
'It was cold... I wasn't exactly proud of what I was showing'
A 35-year-old Ohio man pleaded not guilty to "public indecency and obstructing official business" yesterday, after being tazed over the weekend after attempting to run a marathon while naked.
Brett Henderson was collared during Cincinnati's Flying Pig marathon on Sunday, after a wardrobe malfunction left him pounding the pavement sans culottes.
When police attempted to extract him from the field, he refused to leave, at which point cops did the only sensible thing, tazing the bare naked jogger, and hauling his naked ass to the Hamilton County sheriff's office.
Henderson duly appeared before the beak yesterday, where he pleaded not guilty, and a trial date was lined up.
A local Fox News report doesn't detail whether Henderson had covered up by this point, but his mugshot suggests the sheriff's dept had managed to find something in the lost-and-found locker to cover up the starkers marathoneer.
Fox also reports that Henderson's mother said her son had not intended to run the marathon naked. Rather, he'd borrowed a pair of his father's shorts, but they kept slipping down. He junked them, but wanted to continue to complete the race he'd trained for, leading to the confrontation with unsympathetic cops.
Henderson told the Urbana Daily Citizen he couldn't see what all the fuss was about. After the shorts failure, he said, he'd tried to use his running vest to cover his lower portions, but this hadn't worked out.
Henderson added that, unlike his absent shorts: "All the other runners were supportive and kept encouraging me to continue, so I was running naked," he said. "It was cold and rainy, so I wasn't exactly proud of what I was showing." ®
