All fine now though

Sage 50 customers should be able to access the cloud-based service now after almost a week of intermittent access.

Glamorous Scouse Reg reader Caroline said: "We had problems last Thursday and couldn't get on all day. On Friday we had access in the afternoon but couldn't get back onto the site on Monday, but I did manage to get on from home on Tuesday night."

She said support staff told her they thought the problem had been solved last week, only for it to reappear.

A spokeswoman for Sage said: "It is a busy time because it's payroll year end. Lots of people downloaded the new tax regulations and that has had an impact on Sage 50. The downloads have been moved now, so there shouldn't be any more problems."

The Geordie accountancy provider has made much of its move to the cloud but needs to do a better job of basic management.

The company's online payments service Sage Pay suffered a glitch in early December. That was mercifully brief, if badly timed. Sage blamed it on a data processing report that created an overload, which then caused a hardware failure.

Sage Pay took another three days off in March. ®
