Hewlett Packard is constructing a NZ$60 million data centre in Auckland, New Zealand as part of the vendor’s billion dollar global rollout programme for HP data centres.

The 500m² facility located outside of Auckland in Tuakau is expected to open in March 2012.

HP enterprise services country manager Gavin Greaves said the facility has a low risk of natural disaster, and runs multiple feeds for power, fibre-optic cable and water.

The company already has a data centre in Auckland, and is committed to build and lease another multimillion-dollar facility in Waikato. The existing Auckland data centre in Mount Wellington will support concurrent systems across multiple sites with real-time synchronisation.

Greaves said: "Having a sustainable infrastructure that combines a modern platform with the services capability of HP Enterprise Services means customers can concentrate more on their business and less on managing their IT."

He also endorsed NZ’s various broadband initiatives, saying that pervasive broadband would “really enable cloud computing to take off”. ®
