Hole singer Courtney Love has settled a lawsuit with fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir in Los Angeles.

The Associated Press reports that Kurt Cobain's widow agreed to hand over $430,000 (£264,000) plus interest to Simorangkir, following a Twitter broadside against the designer, who is also known as the "Boudoir Queen".

Love dissed Simorangkir's temerity to "demand payment for a few thousand dollars worth of clothes", all of which has cost her dear.

A settlement between the pair was confirmed to the AP by the fashion designer's lawyer Bryan Freedman.

On 17 March 2009 the singer entertained her 40,000 Twitter followers under her now defunct courtneylover79 account with a string of allegations against Simorangkir covering alleged criminality and family issues.

According to the lawsuit, Love accused Simorangkir of having a criminal background.

"In order to show the world the comments were derogatory and completely illegal, it was imperative to my client to have the settlement be public," said Freedman.

Love's lawyers had hoped to keep the cash handover deal confidential. A trial had been set for February, and was expected to be the first such US trial in which a jury would have decided whether rants on Twitter could be deemed a libel offence. ®
