The interwebs and technology continue to exert their heavy influence on our beloved mother tongue, with the latest contributions to make the Oxford Dictionaries Online including “bloggable”, “clickjacking”, “cyberbullying”,“cybersecurity” and “scareware”.

The inexorable rise of mobile phoneisms is well-represented, with newish neologisms encompassing "feature phone", "sexting" and "tbh".

Back in the real world, meanwhile, Oxford Dictionaries Online also gives a nod to well-established terms such as “gastric band”, “light-bulb moment”, “rumour mill” and “tanorexia”.

Spokeswoman Gabby Fletcher said: “The rapid development of technology creates multiple new products, services, and functionalities, which all need new terms to describe them. We are also seeing the very fast circulation of new vocabulary on a global basis, with the expansion of social media.”

Just the mention of social media is enough to prompt this hack to head to the nearest boozer to get "trolleyed", which by coincidence is another new addition to official lexicon. ®
