iPad 2 launch could be delayed by two months, analyst says
Mmmm, the unicorns have come later this year
A research analyst's note has sent shudders of horror through the Applesphere by suggesting the as-yet-unannounced iPad 2 could arrive two months later than expected.
Vincent Chen, Yuanta Securities' head of downstream tech equities, said yesterday that a redesign just before the Chinese New Year was causing production bottlenecks, Reuters reports.
This would push back the launch by as much as two months, he predicted. This in turn would knock likely shipments this year down from 30.6 million to 23 million.
This pre-supposes a bit of real-think on the part of iPad consumers. The iPad 2 is predicted to be thinner and lighter than its predecessor, and to be equipped with two cameras, thus enabling video calling. Everyone knows it will be more magical and revolutionary than anything that has come before ... Who knows, it may even come in white.
So, while the "Two" may well be delayed – assuming it even exists – whether this would actually dent sales this year is open to debate. After all, if you were a unicorn hunter, but the unicorn-hunting season started late, you'd hardly think, "Mmmm, perhaps I'll leave it this year." ®
