Australian number three telco iiNet has partnered with Microsoft to offer virtual private server (VPS) hosting services.

The move to VPS targets businesses with a need to build and host their web applications in a secure environment without an investment in dedicated servers.

“Whether it’s used for developing complex websites or a new mobile application, a VPS will provide developers with a dedicated platform to build applications free from restrictions typically found on a shared hosting environment,” said iiNet’s General Business Manager Steve Harley.

He added that for small businesses in particular, a VPS is a cost-effective way of managing digital applications with prices starting at $29.95 per month.

The service is also pitched at the Microsoft developer community.

“As the most widely used Web platform in the market, our Web server software offers support for a variety of web application frameworks," said Microsoft Australia director Phillip Goldie.

"Support for open source applications and tools extends the platform further – providing a seamless experience for Web developers.” ®
