HP wants to run its own independent investigation into the departure of former boss Mark Hurd.

Hurd left, apparently for dodgy expenses claims, which were uncovered as a result of an investigation into alleged sexual harassment.

Hurd then joined Oracle.

But according to court documents HP now wants to carry out another probe.

In response to a class action case brought by investors, HP asked the court to put any action on hold until after its own investigation.

HP said the probe would be led by a committee of independent directors and outside lawyers.

The document said the committee would investigate "the circumstances surrounding the departure of Mark Hurd and the board's decision to approve the separation agreement between HP and Mr Hurd". CNet has a copy of HP's court filing.

The Securities and Exchange Commission is looking at the episode and allegations that Hurd's alleged leaking of the purchase of EDS before stock markets were told.

Hurd has also been named in a case brought against HP for alleged bribery in order to secure government contracts. ®
