CES 2011 While many have yet to even get their TVs hooked to the Internet, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), LG was making encouraging noises about connected appliances that know more about your domestic needs than you do.

LG Smart Appliances

Home Choice

The company unveiled a range of home appliances – fridges, cookers, washing machines and robotic vacuum cleaners that utilise LG’s Thinq platform. Currently, this technology focuses on energy saving, with Smart Grid, which works well on refridgerators and cookers, offering options to adjust performance to make the most of low cost energy periods.

In future LG has in mind monitoring from mobile devices. Using Smart Access from a smartphone, tablet or PC you can check whether something has finished cooking whilst watching the camera on the robotic vacuum cleaner as it terrorises the family pets. And with the mobile monitoring available on Smart Diagnosis, soon you’ll know for sure if you left the gas on at home before you went out. ®
