Diddly-diddly-dee, wee-wah-wah

LG has hired famed movie music composer Ennio Morricone to write... er... ringtones for its upcoming dual-core smartphone.

How the mighty have fallen.

How can a man who penned such classic soundtracks as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Mission, The Untouchables, Cinema Paradiso and John Carpenter's remake of The Thing have to resort to mobile phones jingles?

Come on, Hollywood, give this man some real work.

To be fair, the 82-year-old Morricone continues to pen several soundtracks a year, such as Giuseppe Tornatore's Leningrad, released this year.

Back to phones, and LG reckons Morricon's score of the upcoming Optimus 2X will aptly demonstrate the two-core Android handset's audio abilities.

We'd be happier if the company used GPS technology to auto-disable the phone's ringer when owners enter a cinema, the medium for which Morricone's music is best known. ®
