Server virtualisation is no longer a new phenomenon in the world of x86 servers.

For the last two or three years, server virtualisation has been reported by you, the readers of The Register, to be a major focus of attention driving forward the evolution of the server estate.

But is the whirlwind now becoming such a matter of fact that its acceptance into everyday use makes it just another routine consideration when deciding the appropriate architecture for each business service?

We are looking to get your input on just where things stand today. What systems are acceptable to deploy on virtualised servers and which are you holding back? Do you have the tools you require to keep virtualised systems running in everyday business operations and are your skills and procedures all they should be?

Are business critical applications now suitable to run on virtual servers or are you looking at less important applications to perfect real world operations? We would appreciate your time completing our survey here to let us know the state of play today, including your take on the hypervisor and management battles being fought between VMware, Microsoft, Citrix and others.
