Storage specialist LaCie's latest offering is storage in the broadest sense of the word. It's certainly solid state, too - but it's not a drive.

No, the new Tank, as it's called, is a "resilient" hard drive case into which you slot a 2.5in drive - HDD or SSD - should you want your data storage to be "shock-resistant and tested against military-grade drop requirements [to protect] your data from catastrophic drops".

The "hard, rugged" shell is made of rubber and polypropylene, and, LaCie said, snaps securely around your device, keeping out dust and rain.

"Additionally, the LaCie Tank’s padded interior can be customised to fit any shape and size, guaranteeing your hard drive is cushioned and snug for any type of transportation," it added. "Simply remove foam cubes to fit your device precisely."

As such, the Tank can even be used to carry the likes of digital cameras, handheld games consoles and phones.
