What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Reg quiz Homes and offices are awash with electromagnetic radiation these days, right across the dial, but do you know what frequencies the gadgets on your desk - and in your home - are spewing out?

It's been a year or two since we tested your knowledge of radio. Last time we asked you to take a look at some street furniture and decide if it concealed a cellular telephone mast, and it seems that not many of you can. This time we've made it easier by putting a radio in every photograph, the question being on what frequency they operate.

The following 18 items all use radio to communicate: six are transmitters, four receivers and the rest do both. All of them are consumer items that you can buy in the high street, and every one of them is used daily. One requires a (£50-a-year) Ofcom licence, and they're all shown in situ except one - for reasons which will be obvious if you recognise what it is.

The question is the frequency on which they operate - which you can select from the options listed.

The winner will be drawn from the virtual hat in a few weeks, and receive the traditional El Reg Goodie Bag with whatever happens to be lying around the office next time it gets tidied.

This competition is now closed.
