Canonical owner and former cosmonaut Mark Shuttleworth has found a new landing pad.

Ubuntu king Mark Shuttleworth has bought a condo in Manhattan's Superior Ink building for a record $31.5m, according to the New York Post.

Other residents of Superior Ink – a 68-unit, 17-floor building – include actress Hilary Swank, fashion designer Marc Jacobs, and Showtime CEO Matthew Blank.

Shuttleworth touched down earlier this year, according to The New York Observer, but the news has just filtered through to the tabloid Post and gone big thanks to The Post's daily circulation of 525,004.

Shuttleworth, who paid an estimated $20m to fly into space aboard a Russian Soyuz TM-34 and spent eight days working on the International Space Station, sold his Thwate Consulting company to Verisign in 1999 for $575m in stock and now calls the Isle of Man home.

His new Manhattan building was once the former Superior Ink factory owned by a group of companies led by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. The building is described by The Observer as "a discreet warehouse quietly hugging the highway on the corner of Bethune Street at the edge of the West Village."

What do you get for your millions? Stunning views across the Hudson River, a view of The Empire State Building, 24-hour concierge and doorman, and 24-hour valet service for when you gotta head out to fuel up on pizza and coffee for that late night Natty Narwhal hack. ®
